Art as a bridge between science, community and territory

Launching of the Artistic Catalog of Eco-Cultural Mediations - September 30, 2025

On September 30, 2025, the ANID ATE230028 - Ecos of Climate Change Ring Project, led by Dr. Enrique Mundaca and Dr. Mariana Lazzaro-Salazar, officially presented the Artistic Catalog of Eco-Cultural Mediations, a work that celebrates the union between art, education and territory in the rural heart of the Maule region.

More than a publication, this catalog represents a collective experience where art becomes a tool for learning, research and linkage with the environment. Its creation was possible thanks to the joint work of teachers, students, artists, beekeepers and rural communities who participated in artistic mediation workshops held in different localities of the Maule region.

During the ceremony held at the San Isidro Labrador Campus of the Universidad Católica del Maule, Dr. Enrique Mundaca emphasized that "art also investigates, because it teaches us to listen to the earth through emotion and shared knowledge". For her part, Dr. Mariana Lazzaro-Salazar, alternate director of the project, emphasized that this catalog "integrates creativity as a form of cultural and educational resilience in the face of climate change, strengthening the ties between community, territory and local knowledge."

The catalog brings together works, visual records and reflections from workshops held in rural schools in Potrero Grande, Linares, Sagrada Familia and Coronel de Maule, where participants reinterpreted their environments through observation, memory and imagination. Each creation - from the drawing of a bee to the representation of the river or ancestral seeds - demonstrates how art can preserve traditional ecological knowledge and stimulate new forms of environmental education.

This launch marks a milestone for the Ecos of Climate Change project, consolidating its commitment to scientific dissemination, eco-pedagogical training and the active participation of rural communities in knowledge creation processes.

Because caring for the earth is also an act of art. You can explore and download the complete catalog here:
